Why CSV volunteers feel they 'stand out from the crowd'
In today’s climate when there are 30 people going for every job, volunteering makes your CV stand out and proves your dedication.  What better way is there to stand out from the crowd

Emily Cook, 23, former CSV Full Time Volunteer in York

............................................................

Volunteering with CSV certainly developed my communication and team working skills.

Graham Kaye-Taylor, 24, former CSV Full Time Volunteer in Swansea

 This is such a
valuable experience as a pathway to work where you are also doing something worthwhile and exciting.  It builds your character and enables you to make informed decisions about where your life is going

David Deanie, 23, former CSV Full Time Volunteer in Northampton

...........................................................

Volunteering is a really good thing because it helped my college application 'stand out’ above the rest.  It definitely gives your CV the 'X factor' with job applications

Melissa Kime, 23, former CSV Full Time Volunteer in Leeds

Apprentice star backs CSV campaign

Claire Young, former contestant on BBC One's The Apprentice, is backing CSV's drive to get young people to take up Full Time Volunteering as a positive way to increase skills and ride out the credit crunch.

Claire says: "To run a business and be successful in work you need to be a good leader and have a wide range of interpersonal skills you can gain from stepping up to help others.  Volunteering also widens your social network and new contacts always lead to new opportunities.   It's really important to get the message out there, especially to young people, that volunteering is a great way to get you noticed in a competitive jobs market."

New poster campaign launch

As part of our campaign to show how volunteering can improve job prospects, we will be launching our new 'Stand Out From The Crowd" posters later this month (See detail above).

Posters are initially going up outside entertainment venues in Birmingham and London to highlight that volunteering can help young people gain skills and experience to help them to stand out from the crowd, particularly with many struggling to find work or considering what to do after finishing school or university this summer.

Scholarship for CSV Volunteer to research impact of volunteering on young people

Jon Dean, 22, is a CSV Full Time Volunteer in Liverpool and has just been offered a scholarship to study the impact of volunteering on young people and communities.

Jon says "Before I joined CSV, I wasn't beholden to the idea of volunteering. Charitable and socially minded acts yes, but not specifically volunteering. Now I'm obsessed with the topic, in the media, and in Government. So I applied to several higher education institutions in order to study and research the impact of volunteering and the make up of the third sector on young people.

Amazingly, the University of Kent at Canterbury have offered me a scholarship in their Centre for Philanthropy, Humanitarianism and Social Justice, to study and research the entire issue at PhD level.

Its my work with CSV which has directed me to go into this as a career, and it shows how much impact this type of intensive volunteering can have."
